Validation

From the time I hit puberty, I have had to defend my age. I have always looked younger than I am. By the time I hit high school, people couldn't tell who was older - me, at 16, or my sister, at age 12. When you're 20, it's insulting to be asked what high school you go to. As an adult, I've answered the phone and been asked if my mother or father were home.

My biggest fear about all this has always been that one day, my looks would catch up and when I'm finally old enough to want to look younger, I'll actually look my age, or worse, older.

Well. Yesterday put my fears to rest. At least for now.

Here's the scene:

While going about my business baking homemade bread and sewing my own clothes, (or maybe I was eating chocolate),my door bell rings.

I answer to a young salesman at my door.

"Good afternoon. Is your mom or dad home?"

Our Newest Pet

I went outside on Saturday morning half awake to enjoy a few minutes of quiet before the slumber party kids came upstairs. I sat down to enjoy the view and the coolness of the morning, and then looked up. Well, good morning to you too.

I'm super thrilled. Just super, super thrilled.

Summer fun?

So far this is how we've spent our summer:

Mom can't walk for 2 weeks - very painful, swollen tendon - spends days laying down, icing ankle.
Then the dad hurts his back, is down for several days.
Then mom gets sick.
Then dad gets sick.
Then Corbin gets sick.
Then Noah gets sick.
Oh, we're still coughing up lungs.
Oh, and the stupid ankle still isn't healed and now I get to hobble around in a boot.

Happy summer all!

I, for one, can't wait for winter.

Tender Moments

Isn't he just the sweetest?

Me: Corbin, who's the prettiest Mommy?

C: Um, you're not pretty.

Me: Why?

C: Well, I just don't like your voice.

Me (thinking I know what he's talking about): Oh, you mean when I sing.

C: I don't like your voice when you sing OR when you talk.

Well bless his heart....or something along those lines.
Don't worry, I'll get my revenge when he enters the dating years. He has no idea how long I can hold a grudge.

'Cause We'd All Like To Be This Rich

Would you love to donate $500 to a charity to help with the crisis in Haiti but know that the only way you could do so is with someone elses' money? Well, here's your chance. Over at The Pioneer Woman , Ree is having a giveaway where the winners get to choose which charity will receive a $500 donation. On top of that, she is also donating $.10 for every comment left. Right now the comments are up to 12,670 and counting.....fast.
Then on top of all that, she's also having two other giveaways, (one for a kids music set and one for a kitchen aide mixer that I totally plan on winning), and she's doing the $.10 per comment on both of those as well.
So let's re-cap. Click on the link above. Leave a comment with your choice of an organization to donate to. Then go over to her Homeschooling section and leave a comment to enter that giveaway. From there, she has a link to her Tasty Kitchen site, go there and enter that giveaway as well. Each comment is worth $.10.
Clear as mud? Great.
Remember, all you need to know is that you're helping someone else give a ton of their money away to charity and getting a chance to win some prizes too.
Win - win for all.
